A somewhat moderate climate.
Soil:
Hilly and rocky.
Grapes:
Reds; Ciliegiolo, Sagratino, Sangiovese, Whites;
Grechetto, Drupeggio, Malvasia, Trebbiano and Verdello.
Wine has been an integral part of these lands that
predate the Romans according to archeological finds. A white DOC,
Orvieto, is well-known and made predominantly from Trebbiano and Malvasia.
There are two DOCG wines in Umbria, both are red.
Sagrantino di Montefalco is made from Sagrantino with five percent
Trebbiano Toscano. The other red DOCG is Torgiano Rosso Riserva that
is a Songiovese-Caniolo Nero blend with a small percentage of Trebbiano,
Ciliegiolo and Montepulciano.
