The region is one of the largest producers in Italy.
Emilio-Romagna is divided into two regions with the capital city of
Bologna between them: the western part of the region, known as Emilia
and the eastern part of the region known as Romagna.
Lambrusco is home to the Emilia area and is made
from the Lambrusco grape. The sparkling red wine comes in dry and
sweet versions. White grapes grown here are the Malvasia, Trebbiano
and Ortugo.
The Romagna area is home to Albana di Romagna, made
from the Albana grape, and is Italy's first white DOCG. Another predominate
white grape is the Pagadebit. Sangiovese and Cagnina are the major
reds of the area.
