Boundaries:
Molise is the North, to the South is the Ionian Sea, Campania(Northwest)
and Basilicata(WestCentral) are to the West and to the East is the
Adriatic Sea.
Climate:
Rainfall occurs mainly in the winter months. Moderate in
the north and a hot southern peninsula (the heel of the "boot").
Soil:
Rocky Hills and plains.
Grapes:
Reds; AleaticoBarbera, Bombino Nero, Malvasia Nero, Negroamaro,
Primitivo, Sangiovese and Uva di troia. Whites; Bianco
d'Alessano, Bombino Bianco, Malvasia Bianca, Trebbiano and Verdeca.
Eighty-two percent of grapes are red in Apulia which
has produced wines since 2000 B.C. and is one of Italy's largest wine-producing
region. The area is divided into two main wine-growing regions, the
north that is moderate in temperatures and the southern peninsula
that has the winds from the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
The DOC wines of Apulia are the red Salice Salentino,
Castel del Monte, Primitivo di Manduria and San Severo and the white
DOC wines are Castel del Monte Bianco, Locorotondo and Martina.
