The Dordogne River and the Garonne River are the
borders of Entre-Deux-Mers which translates as "between two seas".
The district is known for its white wines but recently light-bodied
reds have been produced from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.
Premiéres Côtes de Bordeaux lies along the east bank
of the Garonne River and is noted for its dry white wines made principally
from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and the addition of Muscadelle
and Ugni Blanc. Entre-Deux-Mers produces more white wine, other than
AC Bordeaux Blanc, than any appellation in Bordeaux.
The southern area of Entre-Deux-Mers sits opposite
of the great sweet wine district of Graves next to Cérons,
Barsac, and Sauternes. These Entre-Deux-Mers appellations, Cadillac,
Loupiac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont produce sweet white wines that are
affected by noble rot like their Graves neighbors.
