The same as the Primitivo grape of Italy after being
identified by researchers, this readily adaptable grape produces ripe
berry flavors and big sugar content for sweetness and alcohol content.
The grape has become famous for the light blush or pink wines called
White Zinfandel that are fruity and simple but are much more respected
in their ability to make red wines with woodsy, wild-berry character
with spicy overtines, especially from the Sierra Foothills and North
Coast areas of California.
Classic growing areas: California.
New growing areas: Brazil and South
Africa.
