Semillon white variety grapes are grown throughout the Graves region in France where it is blended with Sauvignon Blanc to make dry white wines. The grape is often affected with botrytis in the Sauternes and Barsac areas where it is made into sweet wines. When the vintage is correct it is used to make the famous Chateau d'Yquem. Australia produces great Semillon wines with exceptional aging ability and produces sweet Semillon wines.

The sweet versions of Semillon wines have a thick consistency with concentrated fruit character. The dry Semillons have a medium to full body with flavor intensity and an aroma of lanolin and peaches.

Classic growing areas: Bordeaux- France.

New growing areas: California and Washington State- USA, Hunter Valley- Australia.
