Petite Syrah are red grapes that can produce wines dark in hue and firm tannins. It is blended with other wines to provide structure and color, especially in Zinfandel. Although not as complex as Syrah, Petite can be intense, peppery and ageworthy.

Recent DNA tests show that Petite Syrah is related to Syrah. 90% of the grapes in California are Durif and Durif is a cross between Peloursin and Syrah, according to recent research by the University of California at Davis.
