The Muscat grape is generally associated with sweet wines from the Mediterranean basin, however the Alsace region in France does produce dry white Muscat versions with huge luscious flavors. The Muscat is also used to make Asti, formerly Asti Spumante in northern Italy, a light, very fruity, sparkling wine. Light versions of the Muscat grape are associated with northern Italy and California.

Classic growing areas: Alsace, Southern Rhone and Midi-France, Southern Portugal, most of Italy, Greece and Crete.

New growing areas: Victoria- Australia, California- USA.
