Chenin Blanc (SHEN'N BLAHNK)

Chenin Blanc flourishes well in the cool climate conditions of the Loire Valley of France. Chenin Blancs are usually light in body and flavor intensity with delicate flavors and a hint of sweetness. The grapes usually maintain a high acid level that keeps the wines fresh and clean when produced for semi-sweet to sweet finished wine.

Chenin Blanc produced in the Savennières district of the Loire Valley are considered some of the best white wines in the world. The high acidity in these wines usually requires years to develop and unlike other whites they are able to hold their freshness and flavor for many years in the bottle.

Classic growing ares: Loire in France.

New growing areas: California in the U.S.; South Africa (sometimes called "Steen").
