Continental climate: a climate with extreme variation over the year; normally associated with areas not close to large bodies of water and having cold winters and hot summers.

Degree days: a number that represents the suitability of climates for viticulture.

Macroclimate: an overall climate within a region.

Maritime climate: a climate influenced by a large body of water like a lake or sea and that maintains a relatively stable environment year round with mild winters and warm summers.

Marginal climate- a climate that is barely able to permit viticulture and is usually for climates that are too cold versus too warm. Regions with marginal climates will have a great variation of quality between vintages.

Mesoclimate: a climate within a small district or within a vineyard.

Microclimate: a particular climate within a very small area.

Moderate climate: a climate with little variation over the year; usually found near large bodies of water.
