The bar should
have locking cabinets if children are in
the home or will be around the bar area.
Start with the basic
spirits: whiskey, scotch, vodka, gin, rum, tequila and triple
sec in 750ml bottles for mixed drinks. If you or your guests like
to sip fine spirits, you'll already know to stock such items as single-malt
Scotch or 100-percent agave tequila.
Add other spirits
and wines: dry and sweet vermouth, brandy or cognac, a basic
white wine and a basic red wine, also in 750ml bottles.
Purchase
liqueurs. Cointreau or Triple Sec, Kahlua, creme de
cacao and blue curacao are just a few examples.
Be sure to stock non-alcoholic
ingredients- enough for drinks but also for the non-drinkers.
These include: cranberry, grapefruit, orange juice, pineapple, canned
tomato juice or Bloody Mary mix in six packs of small cans or 48 to
64-ounce bottles; soft drinks such as cola and lemon-lime soda canned
in six packs; club soda, tonic water and bottled water and simple
syrup (recipe on page Recipes M-Z). The small cans of mix will usually
make one drink reducing waste of opening large cans or bottles.
Garnishes
and Condiments:
cocktail olives and onions, maraschino cherries, Rose's lime juice,
Angostura or other bitters, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco or other
hot sauce, coarse salt and superfine sugar for mixing and for coating
the rims of glasses. Also toothpick or swords for onions and olives.

Bottle and wine openers
A heavy duty blender
